A new project!

I’m working on a project for exploring astrology through expressive arts.

This came about because I realized that my interest in just visual art is not enough to sustain me. I really don’t want to sell my work, and my primary interest in making art is for growth and as a spiritual practice. There are many times when what I am interested in expressing is super awkward to do in art, and it makes more sense to write, or play guitar, or move around.

And all that is exactly what you do in expressive arts. I really love expressive arts therapy and it was literally life changing for me to study it. I took a break from it for a while,

I am pretty much a “multipotentialite” and thus a mostly competent jack of all trades. Every once in a while I try to go deeper and master something. Now that I am in my 50s, it’s clear that is not ever going to work. I flit about! Expressive Arts allows me to embrace this. I’m an okay artist, a terrible musician, an adequate writer, a clumsy but enthusiastic dancer, and loud and confident actor.

It is clear that fame and fortune, or even just mild success, are not in my future, and that is incredibly freeing. I will never go viral or get very much attention. This is great because I am quite private. I like to teach, and this gives me the opportunity to delve into my special interest and design a class for myself. Maybe others will want to take it. It’s okay if they don’t.

So what exactly is the project? I am developing expressive arts activities for exploring the energies and potential for each of the planets, astrologically speaking. Right now I am working on the Sun and the Moon. My hope is that we will be able to understand how the energy of that planet plays out in our chart, and to use expressive arts to explore more deeply. I’m super excited about it.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming break so I finish the activities and try out my ideas. Stay tuned!
