I’m taking a printmaking class! We are starting with jelli plates, and I made today, it will be set tomorrow. I didn’t buy enough glycerin so I made a smaller plate. And since I already have a purchased jelli plate, I decided to make the homemade one round, for fun.
Homemade round jelli plate
I also gathered lots of round things for making impressions on the plate.
Round stuff!
I did a few experiments with my rectangular plate.
Fuzzy yarn, bottle cap, bowl, and a tube covered in embroidery floss. Beaded bracelets, tube covered in electrical tape, wrinkled ring of electrical tape. This one I rolled the ink directly on the objects and then pressed into the plate. Canning lids, both parts, bottom of measuring cup, a small wheel, breaded bracelet. For this one I rolled ink on part of the plate and then pressed this thing into it, it’s like a tray used for making those melted plastic bead projects, then I pressed the inked part of the tray onto the un-inked part of the plate. Then I pressed a circle stencil over parts of it.
This was a fun way to experiment with shape, texture and value. I used black Akua intaglio ink, but I couldn’t get it very dark, have to figure that part out so I get a better range of values.
